so one day, one of my people was stretching out a hand towel over their head and talking. i saw it up there - this nice big soft perch. it was calling me, so of course, i landed on it.
my person let me hang for a few and then decided to let the towel perch slack and snap it back. pop! i was in the air a couple of feet.
with my bird determination, i landed back on it.
pop!
landed again.
pop!
and so was invented the game of popcorn bird.

we have a local homeless guy that collects recycling from my people and other people in our neighborhood.
his name is dennis.
i don’t know all of his story, but i know he likes cars and dogs. i can hear the tinny rumble of him rolling his cart up the street. right before he gets to our building, he starts calling my name.
even if i bark, he pets me. by now, he knows all of my spots. sometimes he brings me balls and toys that he finds. sometimes he gives me treats. the treats are actually bits of cookie or bread or other such things that people give to him.
i know he loves me because he takes time to hang out and pet me. i know that he loves me because he always calls my name and gives me some of his food even though he needs it and is homeless.
we have six other dogs on our street. he doesn’t call their names.
dennis rules.

living with people that like to sleep in is not particularly fun if you are a bird.
birds like to get up with the sun, make some noise and celebrate the new day. the way i do it - wait until their first movement and then burst out in chatter and song. luckily they don’t keep me covered.
as for the dogs. they sleep all the time anyway. they just don’t get it.
